This Week: Painted Cats Head to Evergreen + CCS Teams With Animal Rescue Site To Help Injured Shelter Cat Jarrett

This Friday, July 31, 5 to 8 p.m. -- join Cat Care Society for the Tails of the Painted Cats opening reception at the Main Street Gallery in Evergreen, 28186 Colorado 74 #4. The painted cats open that night as part of Evergreen's 'Last Friday' Community Art Walk. The public is welcome to browse the art and enjoy refreshments.

The gallery is located in the shopping center just east of Beau Jo's Pizza. MAP The 2015 Painted Cats will be displayed at the Main Street Gallery through August 27th.

Cat Care Society has teamed with The Animal Rescue Site to raise funds to help Shelter Cat Jarrett recover from a fractured leg. The backstory: Jarrett was brought to Cat Care Society in early June when a Good Samaritan found him wandering in their back yard. He had bite wounds and scratches around his body, but most concerning was that Jarrett was walking with a limp. X-rays determined that Jarrett had a non-displaced fracture to his metacarpal bone in his front left leg.

Jarrett now has a cast to keep his front leg steady and in place and will remain on cage rest for the next four weeks. Once the fracture has healed then Jarrett will be ready for adoption! He is a very trusting soul and all he wants is a loving home to call his own.

Cat Care Society's  'Forever Home' recap from June 27th:

London (pictured here) - “Jasmine” found a home with one of our new volunteer socializers and her family. She is doing quite well in her new home and her personality has improved ten-fold. She chirps during playtime with owners and loves the fresh air from the window.

Wyatt and Alex - “Oder and Uller” were adopted by two men. Both cats like watching owners do their yard work and hate the washer and dryer. Oder likes to bat toys and Uller window watches.

Benji - “Arthur” also got a home with one of our volunteers. He shares his home with 4 other cats. He is still a bit timid but is content and purrs a lot.

Douglas - “D.C.” (Stands for Douglas Cat) is a very wired and hyper kind of guy. Definitely doesn’t need coffee to wake up! He is an only child and is adjusting to his home.

Cheddar - “Brio” feels very at home and tolerates the older cat. She enjoys her owner’s lap and loves pets.

Cat Care Society is looking for Volunteers for Kitten Fostering

Kitten season is in full swing and Cat Care Society is in need of families who can foster orphaned kittens, nursing moms with kittens, and pregnant mom cats. The time commitment for fostering kittens is anywhere from two months to two weeks depending on their age, health and temperament. CCS will provide all medical care for your fosters. We do require all foster kittens get a medical checkup at the shelter at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and 9 weeks. This is to ensure their overall health and also to administer important vaccines required of young kittens. Once they are old enough to be spayed and neutered they can come to the shelter to find their furrever homes!

Required: 

Spare room away from household pets

Driver’s license/insured auto for transport

2015 Tails of the Painted Cats Debut at Lakewood Arts Council Gallery

Cat Care Society's 2015 Tails of the Painted Cats will debut at Lakewood Arts Council Gallery this upcoming week.

A public reception will be held Thursday, June 4, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Please plan to attend to see both this year's Painted Cat lineup and the 2015 Flat Cat paintings during June. Appearing again as part of the annual "Cats, Dogs and Birds" show, the painted cats and flats cats will be on exhibit at the LAC Gallery through June 27th.

Please note the LAC Gallery has moved to 6731 W. Colfax Ave (Lamar Station Plaza, next to Casa Bonita).

Innovation and Job News: "State of Downtown Denver 2015 has plenty to praise"

"Last year, downtown Denver saw $1 billion in investments through completed projects. In 2015, that figure is expected to nearly double to $1.9 billion. That's just one key takeaway from the State of Downtown Denver 2015 event, hosted by the Downtown Denver Partnership (DDP) on March 24.

There was a host of data showing the recent successes of Denver and how the city is poised to keep growing -- for instance, residential population has grown 165 percent since 2010. "In order to ensure future success we need to understand what we did right to get us where we are today," explained DDP CEO Tami Door at the event."

Denver Ranks 9th of "2015’s Hardest Working Cities in America"

Quoting CBS4 in Denver:

"WalletHub studied 116 of the most populated cities, using seven key factors to determine the hardest workers. And two Colorado cities fall in the top 20.

Aurora, CO ranks as the 16th hardest working city in America. Its workweek hours average 38.5, and the labor force participation rate is 78.6%.

Still, Aurora isn’t working as hard as Denver, which ranked the 9th hardest-working out of 116 cities in the U.S. 

The average workweek hours for those in Denver is 38.9 (New York City is 39.2), with a labor force participation rate of 78.5%."
