Congrats, Denver Botanic Gardens: "Chihuly exhibit helps Denver Botanic Gardens draw highest visitor numbers in North America"

Quoting the DBJ's Caitlin Hendee from yesterday's posting:

"If the acres of garden displays, numerous events, and rows of flowers and plants weren't enough to draw you to Denver Botanic Gardens in 2014, then perhaps the Dale Chihuly glass sculptures were.

They certainly were for the 1,411,116 visitors who made their way to the Denver attraction in 2014, setting the Botanic Gardens apart as the most-visited public garden in North America last year."

The Denver Press Club, A Denver Treasure: "The country's oldest press club restructures to survive"

Quoting from the Jan 29th Intermountain Jewish News article by Andrea Jacobs:

"AT THE Denver Press Club, which has graced 1330 Glenarm Place since 1925, time is compatibly contradictory. New business strategies have positioned the club for solid growth in the 21st-century, but the past haunts each nook, cranny and caricature.

Denver editors and reporters first met as an informal club in 1867 and incorporated as the Denver Press Club in 1877, one year after Colorado earned statehood.

It was the first press club in the United States."

Loved Reading: 'What to Do in Denver' In This New York Times Feature (posting includes video)

Quoting from the January 21 posting by Freda Moon:

"The signs of Denver’s economic high times as a pot boomtown and bastion of progressive urban policies are everywhere. There is the B-cycle bike-share program, among the most affordable and best-run systems in the country, and the newly renovated Union Station, which has taken a still-in-use 1881 train station and made it the focal point of the thriving LoDo neighborhood. And there are the inconspicuous marijuana dispensaries that dot nearly every neighborhood, and more stunning public spaces — from Washington Park to the Cherry Creek bike path — than one city has a right to."

Xconomy: Denver Ranks 4th in U.S. for STEM Workers — "a major indicator of economic growth and innovation"

Quoting from today's posting by Xconomy's Gregory T. Huang:

"If you’re looking at job markets in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM)—a major indicator of economic growth and innovation — the U.S. is a study in contrasts.

That’s according to a survey by WalletHub, a financial information site based in Washington, DC. The analysis looked at metrics such as job openings per capita for STEM graduates, percentage of workers in STEM jobs, annual median wage and wage growth for those jobs, the projected number of jobs needed in 2018, high-school rankings, and housing affordability."

Deal of the Week: 'Mile-High Rents Put Denver in Big-Time Company'

Quoting from the Dec 30th WSJ column by Max Taves:

"Apartment dwellers in New York, San Francisco and Boston often pay more in rent than average Americans spend on monthly home-mortgage payments.

Is it time to add Denver to that list?

Perhaps, if you are talking about the 34-story glass luxury apartment tower near downtown Denver that is a venture of PM Realty Group and partner National Real Estate Advisors LLC."

DBJ Premium Content: "Working from home? - Be aware of liability issues before they sideline your business"

Quoting from the July 8th Denver Business Journal section, The Home Office:

“'It’s peace of mind,' Maggie Chamberlin Holben said of why she has liability coverage. Her insurance costs about $250 a year, and the home-based public relations consultant doesn’t have to worry if someone trips over her tripod while she’s recording video for a client...Holben has had clients, often those who receive state or federal funds, who require she carry liability insurance. She’s even gone so far as to get professional liability insurance, or an errors and omissions policy.

Her carrier requires that she indemnify herself in each contract, and the insurance is costly — several thousand dollars a year — but again, she said, it goes back to peace of mind."
