February News From Cat Care Society's Forever Home Kitties

Zeke (pictured when he was on Petline9 with Suellen Scott in January) – is happy and relaxed and likes his balls with bells and cat tree. He shares his home with another senior kitty that shows interest in him and they do well with each other.

Pinky - “Tony” immediately laid down next to the owner’s 13-year-old son to watch TV and likes to knead people’s stomachs. Tony begs for attention and likes to be around his new family and gets along great with 13-year-old cat sister.

Tic and Toe - “Tic-Tac and Toe” Both were a little timid at first but now welcome affection. Both cats prefer the dogs company, but owner keeps them away from the hedge hog just in case they think he is fun toy but find out just how prickly he is!

Doris - “Mia” claimed the whole house within 48 hours. She is an only child and likes to play with the throw rug on the kitchen floor.

Taylor – one of our teens now shares his home with a 1-year-old cat sister close to his age and they do everything together, making Taylor come out of his shell.

Charlene - “Charley” transitioned smoothly and loves to be petted and likes her crinkle balls from the shelter. She also likes to be on the very top of a tall cat tower and is roommates with an 11 year old male and 8-year-old female cat.

Andrew – our fireball of energy is still curious and playful in his new home. His owner likes to play with him using small balls and ribbon. He is still making gradual introductions with the slightly older cat. Andrew likes to pull out a toy bunny and wrestle it to the ground.

Petunia – explored every nook and cranny of her house then hid under the bed until 2 a.m. until her new mom got up and since then has followed her every move. She is playful and selects her toys from a basket and uses her turbo scratcher.

Murphy – is another lover of the cat tower uses it for basking in the sun. He sleeps with the youngest daughter and is curious about the older daughter’s bath tub. Perhaps Murphy needs a Calgon moment? Especially after sleeping next to the family dog.

Kiki and Kyrie - “Loki and Tula” have adjusted well. They worked with a pet communicator and Loki told her that he likes his new name much better and Tula likes eating healthy but Loki would love the junk food. Both cats enjoy window watching and have resumed napping with each other again.

Returning for a 4th Year: Cat Care Society Announces the 2014 ‘Tails of the Painted Cats’ Artists, Sponsors and Design Concepts

Cat Care Society has selected the artists and finalized artist sponsorships for the 2014 'Tails of the Painted Cats' lineup of one-of-a-kind, larger-than-life artwork cats. The announcement is made by CCS President Diane Stoner, who says, "Our artists are finishing their painted cats, and on May 8th ‘Tails of the Painted Cats’ will debut at the Lakewood Arts Council Gallery prior to touring throughout the community. The Gala Dinner & Auction is Saturday, July 26th, at Pinehurst Country Club."

Join us for a seminar by Kerry Muhovich, DVM, about the healthy digestive tract of a cat: identifying when vomiting is more serious than an occasional hairball and when the occasional irregularity is something more than a dietary indiscretion. This session also covers mystery GI issues (what tests can be helpful, plus treatment options.

Third year! La Dolce Vita Hosts Feasting For Felines Fundraiser February 20

La Dolce Vita Ristorante Italiano, 361 Village Square Lane in Castle Pines, will benefit Cat Care Society all day Thursday, February 20, 2014.

This is the third year for the annual fundraiser at the restaurant. Twenty percent (20%) of proceeds from all lunch and dinner sales go to Cat Care Society. No flier is needed.

Lunch is served 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and dinner is served 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Cat Care Society Names Mary Jo Baker as Director of Major and Planned Gifts

Mary Jo Baker is the new Director of Major and Planned Gifts for Cat Care Society (CCS). The announcement is made by CCS President Diane Stoner, who says, "We are pleased to welcome Mary Jo to our fundraising team. Having worked for various nonprofits in the Denver area, Mary Jo brings nearly 20 years of experience to our organization."

Most recently Ms. Baker worked in development for Centura Health at Home and Sobriety House, Inc.

"My passion lies with those who are underserved, and often forgotten. What better mission to support than Cat Care Society where the clients come from a population that is fragile, vulnerable, underserved and often forgotten?," Ms. Baker explains.

Fundraising is a second career path for Ms. Baker, as previously she worked in educational television in Portland, Oregon. Ms. Baker earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon. She serves on the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ board of directors.

Xconomy: 'Colorado Legislators Aim to Reward Angel Investors with Tax Credit'

Quoting from today's posting by Michael Davidson:

"Colorado could join the list of states that offer tax credits to angel investors if a bill currently before the Colorado General Assembly is passed...

...Supporters argue that access to seed- and early-stage capital remains a challenge for Colorado entrepreneurs. The Colorado BioScience Association is one of the industry groups pushing for the bill’s passage, along with the Colorado Technology Association and Colorado Cleantech Industry Association. CBSA president and CEO April Giles said her association’s members continue to list raising money as one of their toughest problems.

They think a state income tax credit will help, and they say the tax credit programs in other states have been a boon."

King Soopers Shopping For Cats: What's In Your Wallet?

The past month produced $11,540 of sales to King Soopers from Cat Care Society reloadable card users, resulting in a $577 payment to Cat Care Society.

To date, Cat Care Society supporters using the CCS King Soopers gift cards have purchased $305,803 worth of groceries, and have produced $15,302 funds for CCS.

During 2013, the program brought in $6,835 to Cat Care Society from the King Soopers reloadable shopping card program. It was the best year yet. Cat Care Society has been on the program for 2.5 years now.

If you need a card, they're available at the Cat Care Society shelter front desk for $25. Then as you shop and spend the funds down, you can reload the card again (any amount...as much as you'll need for shopping) at your own King Soopers store.

Adoption Tales from Cat Care Society's Forever Homes: January 2014

Mason - (formerly the CCS seminar manager, pictured) - loves to sit in a cardboard box with his blanket. He likes to be with his people pets and chats them up. He already wore out his string toys and needs more. Mason shares his home with a 10-year-old female kitty and the owners are making slow and gradual introductions.

Marco and Josie - “Malomar” and “Buttercup” were taken to Woofs-n-Hoofs and adopted together shortly after. Both cats love the laser pointer and teasers. “Malomar” will follow the owner around and “Buttercup” has grown fond of the female adopter’s brother.

Nick and Prairie – are now “Nick and Nora” and moved into the new home with ease. Both are described as excellent lap cats and very affectionate. They have an 8 year old male cat roommate who is a bit stand-offish and quickly established the pecking order with them.

Cinnamon - “Julius” is adjusting to his 3 younger cat sisters. He likes to chase and play with energy and leaves his toys out at night.

Emmitt and Kaley - are now named “Nutmeg and Daisy”. Daisy was a bit more curious about exploring and Nutmeg likes to sleeps on the older daughter’s bed to avoid the screaming human toddler in the home. Perhaps with his paws over his ears? Both kitties love the feather wand toy.

Glenda - immediately got into her owner’s lap after being let out of the carrier. She is described as a “lover and a sweetheart”. Glenda loves cat nip that makes her eyes roll up in pure pleasure.

Ipo - likes to be friendly with visitors that come to the house and loves being with her owner all day. She hid under the desk the first day and then was sneaking around at night when she thought the owner was sleeping.
Zena - got used to her new home immediately and they think she is one great cat.

Caroline - likes to lay on the couch and isn’t shy. She enjoys and scratching and sitting on her cardboard scratching pads.

Irving - is now “Brandy” and owned his new environment in less than five minutes and makes for a great lap cat. He also likes to window watch and rest on his cat tree.

Chewy - was described as the perfect cat and very affectionate. He shares his home with an 18 year old SF cat and both share the owner’s bed.

In support of the Denver Broncos and in honor of Super Bowl 48, Cat Care Society is putting its First String of Tabby Cats up for adoption for $48 per "player." Adoption fees include required shots, a mini-catnip football, a uniform/bandana and Perpet-U-Care for our veteran/senior cat players (to help pay for veterinary care at The Cat Clinic at Cat Care Society).

Note: An anonymous donor has pledged a $100.00 contribution to CCS for every tabby adopted during this Super Bowl XLVIII adoption special.

BioScience Day at the Colorado Capitol: CBSA Hosts U.S. Senator Mark Udall and Announces New Legislation

Colorado BioScience Association (CBSA) will host the sixth annual “BioScience Day at the Capitol” on Thursday, January 23rd, 7:30-11:00 a.m. at the Capitol Building in the Old Supreme Court Chambers (200 E. Colfax Ave., Denver, 80203). The event will feature U.S. Senator Mark Udall providing a federal policy update; a Women in BioScience Executive Panel discussion; and Patient Impact Testimonials.

This session, CBSA and Colorado Cleantech Industries Association (CCIA) are initiating the 2014 Colorado Advanced Industry Investment Income Tax Credit legislation to encourage private sector investment and create jobs for Colorado’s Advanced Industry Sectors. The legislation will provide a 25% (30% in rural or economically distressed areas of the state) income tax credit to qualified investors who invest more than $25,000 in a qualified advanced industry company beginning July, 2014-2018. The proposal expands and redefines HB 09-1105 and HB 11-1045, which established the Colorado Innovation Investment Tax Credit (2010 pilot program).

Flood Survivors: Cat Care Society Shares Their Story on 9News Petline9

Fondly known as the "Galasso Gang," these five wonderful kitties who survived the recent flooding in Loveland made their debut on Petline9 this morning.

Meet darling Braveheart, Cirrus, Muggins, Ohms and Wind-Up.

"We used to live in Loveland. There was a lot of rain and then so much flooding there. I didn't know there could be so much water. My brothers and sisters and I were rescued and came here to the Cat Care Society since we could not go back to our home. At least we are all together now so it's not so bad. There are 5 of us here. It would be great if we could all stick together but we know that is tough so we're hoping to at least be adopted with one sibling. They have paired me with Cirrus. We are pretty good buds as you can see from our pictures. Cirrus is my older brother. We are both handsome and cuddly boys and very friendly. We're not too boisterous since we're not youngsters anymore. Because of our age, we are on the Perpet-U-Care program, which will pay for a portion of our health care for the rest of our lives.
